Since his emergence on the local music scene last summer, budding reggae artist Oje Ollivierre, otherwise known as Protoje, has made quite an impression on Caribbean music lovers as well as industry insiders. Ollivierre was one of those persons who was born in the 1980s but wished he was born in the '60s because of his love for vintage reggae music. The artiste who hails from St Elizabeth said he is happy with his music and thinks it is unique. "It's not really a present-day sound but it offers me the opportunity to experiment with music while at the same time bringing a vintage sound to it. That's the type of music I grew up on and that's what I want to do, but it's just that it's not the norm right now," he said. Protoje's music can be classified as dubstyle reggae. Vários génios da música morreram aos 27 anos, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain e tantos outros, de morte trágica... Saga ou coincidência com Moses aconteceu o mesmo... Nascido em 1979 foi encontrado enforcado em 2006 em circunstâncias muito estranhas, no dia dos namorados. Começou pelo piano e em 1995 definitivamente apaixonou-se pelo saxofone, e não fosse ter desaparecido tão cedo  e seria com certeza um dos maiores saxofonistas do  nosso continente. Aos 16 anos chamou a atenção do mundo do Jazz com a sua prestação no Grahamstown National Arts Festival. Tocou com nomes como Hugh Masekela, Sibongile Khumalo e Paul Hanmer. Senegalês nascido no Burkina Fasso, começou a sua carreira  a tocar ritmos cubanos e congoleses. Em 1978 muda-se para o Senegal onde se encanta com o mbalax, o ritmo mais popular do Senegal, uma mistura de jazz, latino, soul, rock tudo temperado com o sabar , o nome das percursões tradicionais do país. Em 1987 a viver em Paris como guitarrista de "session" cria o seu estilo, misturando o mbalax, reggae e o soukous, o ritmo tradicional do Congo.   Em 1995 Youssou N'Dour produz o seu 1º álbum Neil la Thiass. Gosto de boa música e de boa música africana como é óbvio, e este sr. é muito bom ... As dreadlocks não querem dizer rastafarismo, Cheihk é membro da Baye Fall um sub-grupo dos Mouride, grupo religioso senegalês em que os fundamenos são o desprendimento material, o trabalho manual e adorar Deus.
